Often, in the accounting community, proponents of paper are mostly “the older generations, who might still feel that there is a security issue or are concerned with not having that piece of paper,” said Manhattan/Bronx Chapter member Anthony W. Pulice, though he feels that, in time, “that will change.”
“There is some resistance among partners, usually the older ones, when there’s talk of converting to paperless,” said Pulice, a partner at Held Kranzler McCosker & Pulice, LLP (HKMP), a Manhattan-based company that provides consulting services and training programs to CPA firms interested in streamlining their business operations and converting to a paperless environment.
The perception of electronic transmittal as an insubstantial or unreal form of communication is, said HKMP Marketing Manager Ellen Page, a slightly outmoded perception now on its way out.
“There is a feeling that sensitive information should be delivered as a hard copy,” said Page. “But I think that will continue to change as people become more comfortable with the digital world. And that is happening now.”
